1. Bristol, Va. Chinese restaurant to close after 30 years (wjhl.com) — Shanghai Chinese Restaurant, a Bristol favorite for more than 30 years, will serve its last meals on Sunday, Oct. 18 as the owners retire. They're thanking Bristol and the Tri-Cities for decades of support, from race weekends and Rhythm & Roots to family celebrations, and inviting regulars to stop by and say goodbye before the doors close for good.
2. Virginia upcoming events Oct 05 (lemonwire.com) — Bristol residents have two big nights coming up at Hard Rock Live, with Jamey Johnson's Traveling Truebadour Tour on Thursday, Oct. 8, and comedian Martin Lawrence on Friday, Oct. 9. The statewide roundup also highlights concerts, sports, and family events across Virginia between Oct. 5 and 11 if you're up for a short road trip.
3. King men's swimming cruises past Mars Hill with nine wins (morganton.com) — King University's men's swim team picked up a strong home win in Bristol, topping Mars Hill 128–67 with victories in nine events. Local fans saw standout performances across freestyle, medley, and relay races as multiple Tornado swimmers notched double wins in front of the home crowd.
4. New investments promote economic development, childcare across Southwest Virginia (bjournal.com) — Bristol residents are set to benefit from new state and federal investments aimed at expanding childcare, revitalizing former mine lands, and boosting economic development across Southwest Virginia. Recent grants through federal disaster-recovery, ARC, and AMLER programs will support jobs, infrastructure, and local businesses, while Rep. Morgan Griffith's visit to the Bristol Chamber of Commerce highlighted ongoing discussions about the region's economic future.
5. Federal Pacific Names Rohan Kelkar CEO as Howard Broadfoot Moves to Advisor Role (citybiz.co) — Federal Pacific, a major power equipment manufacturer headquartered in Bristol, has appointed industry veteran Rohan Kelkar as its new CEO while longtime leader Howard Broadfoot shifts to an advisor role.
