"Living at Greenspring is even better than I imagined!" says Lyn Hainge, a resident of the Erickson Senior Living community in Springfield, Va.
That's because Greenspring offers everything residents need to enjoy a vibrant, carefree lifestyle in retirement.
"Restaurants, a fitness center, activities, and social opportunities are just steps from their maintenance-free homes," notes Sales Director Kevin Patterson. "As a result, daily life becomes much more engaging."
"It's been very easy to meet people and find activities I enjoy," says Lyn. "What I appreciate most is having such a wide variety of choices. Whether I'm seeking exercise, entertainment, or social engagement, there are plenty of options."
Planning with purpose
Lyn's decision to move to Greenspring was years in the making. In fact, she began exploring her senior living options nearly a decade ago--out of a desire to plan ahead.
"I knew I wanted to make a plan for what I was going to do," she recalls. "I thought, 'Let's start investigating.'"
Living in Arlington, Va., at the time, she explored several communities throughout Northern Virginia, including locations such as Alexandria, Stafford, and Lake Ridge.
When Lyn discovered Greenspring, she was immediately impressed by the breadth of amenities.
"There's a pool, hot tub, gym, walking trails, resident gardens, a woodshop, theater, radio and TV stations, seven restaurants, a medical center, bank, beauty salons, and a pharmacy," she says. "Plus, over 100 clubs and so many activities."
She adds, "I don't think they missed anything I'd want!"
With Greenspring at the top of her list, Lyn joined the Priority List, recognizing that saving her spot in line for an available residence would provide flexibility when the timing was right.
Out and about
Since moving into her new home in April 2025, Greenspring has continued to exceed her expectations. "I felt at home immediately," she says. "Everyone is so thoughtful and friendly."
Soon after settling in, Lyn began taking advantage of the array of activities on campus.
"During my first week, I visited the Treasure Chest, Greenspring's [resident-led] resale shop," she says. "The atmosphere is really upbeat, the things for sale are of great quality, and the proceeds benefit on-campus [initiatives]. Within a couple of weeks, I signed up to volunteer."
She also volunteers as a "Bottle Buddy," a resident-led program that supports glass recycling, attends many of the on-campus lectures and performances, and regularly visits the pool.
"It's been very easy to meet people and find activities I enjoy," Lyn notes. "Taking advantage of clubs and activities is a great way to meet people. There's an immediate shared connection."
She continues, "One evening, shortly after I moved in, a new friend and I were sitting outside on a bench, chatting after dinner. As we watched the sun set over the trees, I thought, 'This is heaven.' The only 'trouble' I have is finding time to do everything I want to do!"
Peace of mind
For Lyn, moving to Greenspring has also provided peace of mind--for her, her son, and her stepdaughters, who live across the country and abroad.
If something were to happen, "My family would want to help, but no one could get here immediately," she explains. "Living at Greenspring makes me feel safe, and it gives them a reason to relax a bit and not feel that burden of worry."
That reassurance became especially clear when her son traveled from Japan to help her move in.
"When we drove onto campus, his first reaction was, 'Wow, this place looks wonderful,'" Lyn recalls. "By the end of the week, he asked, 'Can I live here too?'"
"What surprises most people is not any single amenity," Patterson says. "They are struck by how engaging and carefree daily life is here. Without the worries of homeownership and finding additional levels of care in the future, residents can make the most of their retirement years."
'Truly at home'
Recently celebrating her one-year anniversary at Greenspring, Lyn is so happy to call the community home.
"Living at Greenspring is exactly what I hoped for," she says. "I feel safe, connected, and truly at home."
