Burke Motorcyclist Dies After Braddock Road Crash Near Kings Park

A 45-year-old Burke motorcyclist died after colliding with a car turning onto Southampton Drive near Kings Park, police said.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, VA — A 45-year-old Burke man has died from injuries suffered when his motorcycle collided with a car Friday night near Kings Park, according to Fairfax County Police.

Russell Edwards was riding a 2025 KTM SMCR 390 motorcycle east on Braddock Road when he collided with a 2015 Toyota Corolla that was turning left onto Southampton Drive, police said.

Officers responded to the intersection shorty after 9 p.m. Friday. Edwards was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Corolla was not injured and remained at the scene, according to police.

Speed, Alcohol Remain Under Investigation

Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Police said speed and alcohol remain under investigation but did not specify whether either is believed to have been a factor.

Police initially reported shortly after 10 p.m. Friday that officers were at the scene of a motorcycle crash at Braddock Road and Southampton Drive and that the motorcyclist had suffered life-threatening injuries. Eastbound Braddock Road was closed at Southampton Drive while crash reconstruction detectives investigated.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Solvers of Fairfax County.
