Blood Donations Needed: Find Burke Area Blood Drives
Donations of all blood types are urgently needed in the DC region. Here are some blood drives coming up.
BURKE, VA — As the DC region faces a shortage of blood donations, a Northern Virginia health system is asking for residents to donate all types of blood. Inova Health System has organized numerous blood drives in and around Burke.
Hospitals typically have a tougher time keeping blood supplies well stocked in the summer, but this year the nation as a whole is facing a blood shortage. Inova cites a decrease in blood donations and greater patient needs for blood transfusions as reasons for the shortage.
"Due to a nationwide blood shortage, other blood centers are unable to help support Inova Blood Donor Services when we fall short on donations from local donors," said Inova in a press release. "Inova Blood Donor Services is working hard every day to meet the needs of the patients in our community during these difficult times."
