Braddock Voters To Fill School Board Seat In Special Election
Braddock District voters will cast ballots in Tuesday's special election to fill the vacant seat on the Fairfax County School Board.

BURKE, VA — Braddock District voters are heading to the polls Tuesday in a special election to vote for their representative on the Fairfax County School Board.
Small business owner Tom Dannan and Saundra Davis, who has 10 years of leadership experience serving vulnerable communities, are on the March 3 ballot.
Polls in the Braddock District will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

During the early, in-person voting period, which ended on Saturday, a total of 4,408 ballots were cast. That represents 4.90 percent of the 89,998 registered voters in the Braddock District, according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

Any registered voter in the Braddock District can cast a ballot on Tuesday. District residents can also register at the polls and file a provisional ballot. Visit the Virginia Department of Elections website to check your registration status and locate your polling place.
Completed mail-in ballots must be returned in person to the Fairfax County Registrar's Office, a secure drop box or a polling place by 7 p.m. on Tuesday in order to be counted.
Alternatively, completed absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, March 3. and then received by the registrar's office by noon on Friday, March 6, in order be counted.
Although school board candidates appear on the ballot as independents, they can be endorsed by a political party. Davis is endorsed by the Fairfax GOP and Dannan defeated Alexa Krezel in the Jan. 10 Firehouse Primary to win the Democratic Party's endorsement.
As of Feb. 19, Dannan had received a total of $38,074 in campaign contributions, according to financial filings reported by the nonprofit Virginia Public Information Project.
Davis also reported on Feb. 19 that she had received $21,910 in campaign contributions, according to VPAP.

The school board seat became vacant on Dec. 16, when Rachna Sizemore Heizer was sworn in as the new Braddock District supervisor. She was elected to that post by defeating Republican Kenneth P. "Ken" Balbuena and Independent candidate Carey Chet Campbell in the Dec. 9 special election.
