Burke House Fire Starts In Microwave

Residents were not displaced after the kitchen fire.

BURKE, VA—A fire started in a microwave at a Burke home last Friday, Oct. 19, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Around 11:22 a.m., units responded to the 6200 block of Winnepeg Drive. The homeowners had put out the fire by the time help arrived. There were no injuries.

Three people were home when smoke alarms alerted them to the fire. The fire spread from the microwave to the cabinets.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in the microwave. Red Cross assistance was not needed, as damages are estimated to be $20,000.
