Burke Woman Wins $2M Top Prize In Virginia Lottery Game

BURKE, VA — A Burke woman won the $2 million top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s $2,000,000 Bonus Multiplier game after buying tickets at a local convenience store.

"It’s just kind of numbing," Cindy Lopez told Virginia Lottery officials about how she felt when she learned she had won the top prize.

Lopez bought the winning ticket on a Sunday when she stopped at the 7-Eleven at 9413 Burke Lake Road in Burke. She bought some tickets and took them home to scratch. That’s when she discovered one of the tickets was a top prize winner.

She had the choice of taking the full $2 million prize in annual payments over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $1,519,757 before taxes. She selected the cash option.

The 7-Eleven store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Lopez said she didn’t get much sleep that Sunday night waiting to redeem her winning ticket on Monday with the Virginia Lottery. She said she has no immediate plans for her winnings.

$2,000,000 Bonus Multiplier is one of dozens of scratchers available from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $20 up to $2,000,000. This is the first top prize claimed in this game, which means two more top prize tickets are unclaimed.

The odds of winning the top prize in this game are 1 in 1,387,200. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.35.
