Assistance League of Northern Virginia is again selling the White House Ornaments designed each year by the White House Historical Association.
President Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, is highlighted on the 2021 Christmas Ornament. One side of the ornament features a painting of the 1967 Blue Room Christmas tree designed by Robert H. Lacessig, a designer for American Greeting cards. The opposite side of the ornament contains a quote from President Johnson. “Our mission is at once the oldest and most basic of this country: to right wrong, to do justice and to serve man.” These words were spoken by the President calling on legislators to support a bill that would protect the right to vote and outlaw discriminatory measures that prevented African Americans from voting. The Texas bluebonnets encircling the quote are inspired by Lady Bird Johnson’s beautification program on the White House grounds and throughout Washington, DC.
Proceeds support Assistance League’s community-based programs, which transform the lives of children.
