Columbus Day 2019: What's Open, Closed In Burke

BURKE, VA — Fairfax County will recognize the federal holiday Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 14. Government offices, schools and other services will be closed. Other services may be open or run on a different schedule.

Here's a look at what's open and closed around Burke.

Fairfax County Government Offices: Closed on Oct. 14.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Oct. 14.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed on Oct. 14.

Community Centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed Saturday, Oct. 12 through Monday, Oct. 14.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a holiday weekday schedule on Oct. 14. Fastran will not operate on Oct. 14. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.

Libraries: All Fairfax County libraries will be closed on Oct. 14.

Metrorail: The Metrorail system will be open 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and operate on a Saturday schedule on Oct. 14. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Saturday and supplemental schedule on Oct. 14. See bus timetables.

Post Offices: Closed on Oct. 14.

Recreation Centers: Open regular hours on Oct. 14.

Trash and Recycling: County trash and recycling collections occur on Oct. 14 while the Customer Service Center is closed. Contact private providers for any schedule changes. The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) are open for regular hours on Oct. 14.
