Drunk Driving Crash Kills Burke Resident's Dog: Police

Police believe a drunk driver veered into the wrong lane and struck a car with a woman and dog inside.

BURKE, VA—Police have arrested a suspected drunk driver after a Burke woman was injured and her dog was killed in a crash Sunday.

Around 9:34 p.m., police responded to Lee Chapel Road at Onion Patch Drive for the two-vehicle collision. Officers found both drivers lying on the ground. The driver of the car that was struck went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The dog was taken to an emergency vet and died from injuries.

Investigations revealed the other driver had reached the top of a hill near the intersection and lost control of the vehicle. The car veered over the yellow line into the opposite lane and hit the other vehicle head-on.

Police believe David Algie, 28, of Fairfax was under the influence of alcohol and had THC oil. He was taken to the hospital and charged with DWI. Other charges are possible pending lab testing results and consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney.
