Fairfax County activates Heat Plan

Following the National Weather Service Heat Advisory, Fairfax County’s heat plan is active today, July 15 and started at 8 a.m.

When activated, the heat plan opens cooling centers scattered around the county to relieve residents of heat.

These centers are open during normal operating hours and will have additional items like bottled water, sunscreen, bug spray and body wipes.

The Fairfax County government center remains open.

The Fairfax County Government Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery team advises hydration, limiting outdoor activities, wearing lightweight clothing and to never leave children or pets alone in vehicles.

Fairfax County activates its heat plan every time the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory, extreme heat watch or extreme heat warning.
