Fairfax Libraries Prepare To Reopen For Limited Service

Libraries will open for timed visits with limited services and capacity.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County libraries are planning to reopen for limited service on Monday, July 13. Curbside pickup has been available since the start of June.

Library members will be able to access library branches for 30-minute visits. Limited services will include browsing shelves, using computers and picking up holds.

Services unavailable during express visits include meeting and study rooms, print daily newspapers, Memory Depot, in-house laptops, in-person programming,merchandise purchases, and acceptance of donated items.

Capacity limits will be implemented, as well as social distancing measures. During the first week, library staff will be in the front lobby to share information and monitor capacity. Plexiglass shields will be in place at customer service desks, and disposable masks will be available if needed.

Curbside pickup and virtual services will continue. Returned materials will continue to be quarantined for 72 hours before they are checked in. Meeting rooms are unavailable.

Express visits will be offered Mondays and Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Curbside pickup is available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
