First Responders Day is being Celebrated October 28th

Halloween is October 31, 2023 and falls on a Tuesday this year. Festivities have been held throughout October and there’s only a handful of days left to say “Trick or Treat” while dressed in your favorite costume. We have detailed some of the remaining festivities for the month and provide more details below.

Are you the owner of a home based daycare or does your non-profit organization deal with young families? Eartha’s United Learning Advocacy (EULA) Program has successfully donated books to the local community, to include the United Service Organizations (USO). The goal of EULA is to provide organizations and independently owned daycare/preschools with quality books that make learning about staying healthy fun. Dream Ellison sponsors the EULA Program and looks forward to collaborating with other authors who focus on early education. In addition to opportunities to collaborate, the EULA Program is a proud supporter of the Fairfax County Park Foundation – McLean Central Park Playground.

We’re experiencing near record high temps. Are you looking for a way to beat the heat? Celebrate the Grand Opening of Bruster’s of Alexandria this Friday, October 27th through Tuesday, October 31st. Bruster’s premium ice cream is made fresh on site daily. Throughout the celebration, guests can experience face painting, balloon artist, and spin the wheel for prizes with every purchase. A Puppy pageant is planned for Saturday, Oct 28th. On Halloween night, October 31st, kids can wear a costume and get a free scoop of Hallowscream Ice Cream. Please contact the store for more details. On Saturday, October 28th, celebrate First Responders Day with Hooters wings. Participating restaurants are offering a one-day special of Buy 10 wings, Get 10 wings free. Guests can show their ID or come in uniform. Dine in only. If you’re in the Fairfax, VA area, consider celebrating First Responders Day at the Mosaic Community Cookout. The exclusive offer for first responders is two (2) complimentary BBQ meals courtesy of Lost Whiskey BBQ. Two meals per badge, available while supplies last. The plates include a brisket slice, pulled pork, pork belly burnt ends, sausage, coleslaw, pickles/pickled onions, Lost Whiskey Sauce and a Bun.

The Washington Capitals launched a Try Hockey for Free Program that offers ball hockey clinics to kids ages 5-17 in order to provide FREE access to the game for kids and families across the Washington D.C. area who have never participated in the sport before. Each participant will learn the basics of hockey (stickhandling, passing, and shooting) and will receive a hockey stick and ball to take home following the event to encourage continued development. Clinics will be held at various Washington Capitals outdoor ball hockey rinks in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. This program is designed to be an introduction to the game for the participants and the first opportunity to reach the families in our community who are looking for more affordable options to play.
