Lake Braddock Girls Fall to Chantilly

Can't overcome early deficit

Despite a comeback effort in the second half by Lake Braddock, the Chantilly girls held for a 42-31 win.

After an impressive display on both sides of the ball in the first two quarters, the Bulldogs were up 28-9. With outstanding performances from Jessica MacNamara, Siobhan Beslow and Yawerely Ramirez, Westfield outshot and out-defended the Bruins.

The Bulldogs' big three shared their points almost equally, with MacNamara leading the way at 10 points, while Beslow and Ramirez each poured in nine. Beslow was a huge asset in the paint, grabbing rebounds with fervor. Ramirez had her own contributions in the form of her quick feet and aggressive passing. At the end of the third quarter Westfield led the Bruins 39-18.

That was when Lake Braddock began to fight back. Seemingly rising from a slumber, the Bruins looked like a different team coming into the fourth quarter. Conceding just three points in eight minutes, the Lake Braddock girls scored 13 of their own. Leading the charge was junior guard Hannah Aboulhosn, who had nine points on the night.

As he watched his team's lead shrink to 11 points from 21 in the fourth quarter, Westfield Coach Pat Deegan did not appear happy.

"I thought we played well for three quarters," Deegan said. "Lake Braddock came alive in the fourth. But overall we gave a good performance."
