Lake Braddock's Zanellato Takes Athlete of the Week Honors

10 receptions for 207 yards and game-winning touchdown lead Bruins in win over Westfield

Matt Zanellato's bizarre touchdown catch led to a 12-7 win over the Westfield Bulldogs on Thursday night. His all-around performance earned him Burke's Athlete of the Week.

Lake Braddock's talented senior wide receiver caught 10 passes for 207 yards and a 50-yard "is-it-or-isn't-it" touchdown that eventually was and proved to be the game-winning score. On a play you don't see everyday, Zanellato was bumped out of bounds by a Westfield cornerback, came back in, and caught a Michael Nebrich pass for six points. The side judge initially called illegal touching on Zanellato, but the back judge saw the pass interference and overruled.

For his part, Zanellato was pretty sure that he was legal the whole time.

"It was an out-and-up and [the cornerback and I] got tangled up and we both kind of pushed off each other," Zanellato said. "He guided me out of bounds, he gave me that nudge to get out, so I wasn't surprised they called it on him."
