National Park Service Celebrates 107th Birthday

On Friday, August 25th at 6:30-8pm, the National Park Service is celebrating its 107th birthday with a Twilight Walk at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts! “Alongside this tribute, immerse yourself in the beauty of the park's gardens, trails and buildings, gaining insights into its unique role in the National Park system. This commemorative event is a fantastic opportunity to honor the National Park Service's legacy while exploring the captivating landscapes of Wolf Trap. All ages are welcome to join in this illuminating adventure. Birthday cupcakes will be shared with all to conclude this celebration.”

Join neighbors, family, and friends at Lake Accotink Park for a Community Day Celebration on Saturday, August 26th at 11:00am – 6:30pm. This is a free event. No cost activities include fishing, paddle boats, face painting, and more. You’ll also find snow cones, snacks, and limited edition bandanas.

Celebrate National Cinema Day on August 27th! Customers can find discounted admissions for all movies at participating U.S. theaters- no more than $4. Regal, AMC, and Cinemark are participating. For Regal Cinemas, in addition to all tickets being $4, you’ll also find a small popcorn and soft drink combo for $4. For guests attending AMC, you’ll find a small fountain drink and popcorn combo for $5. Current movie offerings include but are not limited to The Super Mario Bros. Movie; Oppenheimer; Blue Beetle; Barbie; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem; and The Little Mermaid.

Did you know Free Dentristy Day is being celebrated September 9th? Join Reflection Dental on September 9th from 7AM-1PM. All patients will receive either a free cleaning, a filling, or simple extraction. Additional events can be found here.

1. 25 Aug: Free Kids back to school party at Life Champ Martial Arts from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Please note that numerous locations of Life Champ Martial Arts are hosting events.
2. 25-26 Aug: Kindergarten Kickoff at Central Library at 10:30-11:30am.
3. 26 Aug: Back to School Rally will occur in Arlington, VA from 10am-12pm.
4. 26 Aug: T.C.Youth Inc's "Back-2-School" Workshop will occur 1-3:30pm at Chinn Park Library in Woodbridge, VA. During this free event, families learn about requirements for middle and high schoolers. Registered attendees can receive a voucher for a free kids meal from a local Texas Roadhouse®.
5. 26 Aug: Alpha Sigma Back to School Backpack Drive & Block Party will occur in Washington, DC.
6. 26 Aug: 11th Annual Health & Wellness Back 2 School Festival in District Heights, MD. Distribution of backpacks filled with school supplies, healthy snacks, fidget toys, and more. Free vaccinations will be offered (COVID, Flu, Tetanus, Shingles).
