Resident Injured And Displaced In Severe Springfield Fire

The home's resident had escaped the fire and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—A fire in the early hours of Friday injured and displaced one person in Springfield, the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department says.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a one-story home in the 5500 block of Heming Ave around 2:30 a.m. According to Deputy Fire Chief William Garrett, the fire was fully developed in the front of the home and took about 10 minutes to extinguish.

The resident was living under an addition to the home, which was under renovation. The addition did not have smoke alarms. After a neighbor discovered the fire and called 911, the resident escaped the home and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
