Seven Robinson Wrestlers Earn First-Place Finishes In Northern Region Championships

Robinson finished first in Saturday’s 2011 Northern Region Wrestling Championship at Fairfax High School. Robinson’s 260.50 points and seven first place finishes were enough to propel the team the overall district victory.

Robinson dominated the mat Saturday, sending 11 wrestlers to the championship round. Out of those 11, seven took first-place place honors, two finished second, and three finished fifth. Lucas Sodergren, Dallas Smith, Jake Smith, Jack Bass, Brooks Martino, Wes Jones and Jake Pinkston all finished first in their respective weight class.

Though expected by many to produce a strong showing in the day’s events, Robinson head coach Brian Hazard was still pleased with his team’s effort,

“We really had a great day yesterday…winning 11 out of 11 matches. When you do that, you put yourself in a position to win. Today, in the finals, we came prepared and wrestled very well. All year our focus has been next week, for the state tournament. This has been a catalyst to get to that level. We still have one tournament left in the season to finish on a good run” remarked Hazard after his final wrestler had finished his match.
