What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2021 In Burke

BURKE, VA — Christmas falls on a Saturday in 2021, so there will be various closings on the days before. That means a shortened work week for many, and many students are on winter break the entire week.

Some services are closed for Christmas Eve (Friday, Dec. 24). Other closures will begin on Thursday, Dec. 23 and continue through the weekend. Residents should prepare for additional closures the following week around New Year's Eve on Friday, Dec. 31.

Below are the closures to know around Christmas in Burke.

Fairfax County government offices: County government offices will close at noon on Dec. 23 and be closed on Dec. 24.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Students have winter break from Dec. 20 to 31.

Burke Centre Conservancy: The conservancy office is closed on Dec. 23 as a floating holiday for staff and closed on Dec. 24 and 25. Regular trash collection will happen.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Dec. 23 and 24.

Community center: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services community centers will be closed from noon on Dec. 23 through Dec. 26.

Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 24 and 25, Fairfax Connector will run Saturday service. Routes on a Saturday schedule will include 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 424, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 703, 721, 803, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: Library locations will be open 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 23 and closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Metro: Metrorail operates on a weekday schedule and Metrobus operates on a Saturday schedule on Dec. 24. Metrorail and Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables for more information.

Park authority: Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Post offices: Some locations may have limited or extended hours on Dec. 24. Check with your local post office. All post offices are closed on Dec. 25.

Recreation centers: Rec centers will be open 5 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.

Trash and recycling: Private collection customers should check schedules with their hauler.

Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.

Virginia DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Dec. 23 to 25.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE will not operate on Dec. 24 and 25.
