What's Open, Closed For New Year's 2022 In Burke

BURKE, VA — With Christmas in the books, the countdown to 2022 approaches.
New Year's Day will fall on a Saturday, which means there will be various closings on the day before, Friday, Dec. 31. Many students are already off for winter break, and New Year's Eve is a holiday for some workers.
With the omicron variant spreading and COVID-19 cases rising in the DC region, residents should be aware of New Year's event cancellations. Watch Night Falls Church has been canceled, and First Night Alexandria has canceled all activities but midnight fireworks. Another options near Burke is New Year's Eve, a night at the disco at Trummer's in Clifton and Dave & Buster's Family New Year's Eve at Springfield Town Center.

Fairfax County government offices: County government offices are closed on Dec. 31.

Burke Centre Conservancy: Dec. 31 is the observed New Year's holiday for staff.
Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court and Circuit Court are closed on Dec. 30 and 31. Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Dec. 31.
Community centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services community centers will be closed from noon on Dec. 31 through Jan. 2. Fastran will not operate Dec. 31 or Jan. 1.
Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, Fairfax Connector will run Saturday service. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.
Libraries: Library locations will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Metro: Metrorail operates 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. on a weekday schedule and Metrobus operates on a Saturday schedule on Dec. 31. Metrorail and Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule on Jan. 1. Metrorail hours are 7 a.m until 12 a.m. on Jan. 1. Due to the continued impacts of the derailment and 7000-series investigation, Metrorail service will be reduced at least through Dec. 31. Park authority: Colvin Run Mill, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed on Dec. 31. Sully Historic Site is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Jan. 1, all of these sites will be closed.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 31.
Recreation centers: Rec centers will be open 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, except George Washington Rec Center, which is closed. All rec centers are closed on Jan. 1.
Trash and recycling: There is no schedule change for county collection customers on Dec. 31. Private collection customers should check schedules with their hauler.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1.
Virginia DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.
