Witness Comes To Rescue In Springfield Sexual Assault

A nearby resident intervened when a man allegedly assaulted a girl on a sidewalk, Fairfax County Police say.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — A witness came to the rescue of a teen girl in an alleged sexual assault Thursday in Springfield, according to Fairfax County Police.

Officers responded around 7 p.m. to the 7000 block of Backlick Court. Detectives believe an unknown man approached the victim on the sidewalk and sexually assaulted her. The victim tried to call 911 for help, but the man reportedly threw her phone on the ground. The witness, a nearby homeowner, intervened and helped officers take the man into custody.

Arjun Dhimal, 25, was charged with abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape and preventing the summoning of law enforcement. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.
