Burke Woman Dies After Tree Falls Onto Home

A Burke woman is dead after a tree fell onto a home Monday night.

Units responded around 8:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of Burnside Landing Drive after the victim got trapped under the tree. The victim was identified as Beverly Krizanovic, 63, of Burke. No other injuries were reported.

The tree had a diameter around 2 to 3 feet and height of 60 feet, Battalion Chief Willie Bailey told WTOP. Fairfax County Police were on scene to investigate.

The cause of the tree falling wasn't immediately known, but Bailey said the heavy rain has made tree roots loosen up. A number of other homes on the street have large trees nearby, The Washington Post reports.

The medical examiner's office will confirm the cause and manner of death.
