FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Molly "Sully" Sullivan, a Fairfax County Public Schools teacher seeking the Sully District seat on the Fairfax County School Board, announced Wednesday that her campaign has raised more than $10,000 during its first four weeks.
According to Sullivan's campaign, the fundraising total reflects contributions received since she launched her bid for the School Board seat. The campaign did not release additional fundraising details.
Incumbent Sully District School Board Member Seema Dixit began her first four-year term on Jan. 1, 2024. November 2027 is the next time district residents are scheduled to vote for their School Board representative.
Sullivan, who teaches third grade in Fairfax County Public Schools and is also an FCPS parent, said her campaign is focused on budget accountability, increasing parent involvement in public education and promoting more responsible technology use in schools.
"On the Fairfax County School Board, I will work diligently to ensure every dollar is directed towards students, classrooms, and schools," Sullivan said in a statement.
Sullivan said that during the 2026 budget cycle, she identified $11 million in unused FCPS school accounts, which she said helped preserve 87 educator positions.
"I believe financial transparency should be a standard practice—not a task left to teachers working after hours—and that's why I'm running for school board," she said.
According to the campaign, Sullivan is running on improving financial accountability within Fairfax County Public Schools, expanding opportunities for parent and family involvement, and advocating for responsible technology policies in classrooms.
The campaign said Sullivan previously served as president of Liberty Middle School's PTA, where she organized fundraisers and spoke before the Fairfax County School Board on issues affecting local families, including efforts to preserve middle school after-school programs.
According to the campaign, Sullivan was born in South Korea and adopted as an infant before being raised in Andover, Massachusetts, in a family of educators. She began her career as a prekindergarten teacher and instructional assistant before earning bachelor's and master's degrees while raising four children.
Today, Sullivan serves as a third-grade teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools and is also an FCPS parent. She said those experiences have shaped her understanding of how School Board decisions affect students, educators and families across Fairfax County.
