Children Unharmed After Husband, Wife Found Shot To Death In NoVA Home

CENTREVILLE, VA — A husband and wife were found shot to death inside a Centreville home Wednesday evening, and children who were inside the residence at the time were unharmed, according to Fairfax County Police.

Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 6300 block of Sharps Drive for a reported shooting, PFC Ingrid Palencia of the Fairfax County Police Department's Public Affairs Bureau told reporters at the scene.

When officers arrived, they found the husband and wife suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, Palencia said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives also recovered a firearm inside the residence.

Children Were Inside Home

A family member who lives at the residence called 911, police said. Children were also inside the home at the time of the shooting, but none was injured. Police did not immediately provide the number or ages of the children.

The children were with family members Wednesday evening, according to police.

Police have not identified the husband or wife or said what investigators believe led to the shooting. When reporters asked whether detectives were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide or a domestic incident, Palencia said the investigation remained active.

"There is definitely no threat to the general public at this time," Palencia said.

Police also said no one involved in the incident was believed to be outstanding.

"This is something devastating that has occurred in this neighborhood," Palencia said, adding that victim services advocates were working with the family to provide resources.

Investigators were expected to remain at the Sharps Drive home Wednesday night while detectives processed evidence and continued looking into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Fairfax County Police said in a social media post that an adult man and adult woman had been found dead inside the residence and that all parties were accounted for. Police said there was no threat to the community and detectives were investigating.

Police had not said Wednesday evening whether officers had previously responded to the home for domestic violence or other incidents.
