CENTREVILLE, VA — A man arrested with 586 fentanyl tablets and a handgun bullet in Centreville was sentenced Friday to one year of active incarceration after pleading guilty to felony drug distribution and ammunition charges, according to Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano.
Sean Bradley Hilbrand, 29, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II controlled substance and possession of ammunition as a convicted felon.
Fairfax County police arrested Hilbrand on April 3, 2024, as he exited a parked vehicle outside an apartment in Centreville, according to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
Officers were arresting Hilbrand on unrelated charges when they discovered a bag containing 586 fentanyl tablets in his possession, prosecutors said.
During the arrest, officers also recovered a bullet for a 9-mm handgun from the floorboard of his vehicle.

Hilbrand had previously been convicted of felony marijuana distribution in March 2020, according to prosecutors. That conviction prohibited him from legally possessing firearms or ammunition.
On April 16, 2025, Hilbrand pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II controlled substance and one count of possession of ammunition as a convicted felon.
Fairfax County Circuit Court records show that Hilbrand received a three-year sentence for each of his two felony convictions, with two years suspended on each count. The court also imposed three years of supervised probation for each conviction.
Although the court imposed one year of active incarceration on each conviction, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office reported that Hilbrand's total active sentence was 12 months. The court's online docket does not specify whether the sentences run concurrently or consecutively.
Prosecutors said the 12-month active sentence falls within Virginia's state sentencing guidelines.
An additional felony charge of failure to appear was dismissed, according to Circuit Court records.

"Hilbrand's possession of such a large quantity of fentanyl, along with ammunition, poses a real risk to the community," Descano said in a statement Friday.
"My office has always distinguished between people who are struggling with substance use, who need help, and the sellers who are feeding that addiction, who need to be stopped," Descano added.
