• Kiggans' Bill to Ensure Proper Lifeguard Staffing on Public Beaches Passes the House with Bipartisan Support (house.gov) — Chincoteague's recent struggle to fund lifeguards at the federal beach has prompted new federal legislation that just passed the U.S. House. The Safe Beaches, Safe Swimmers Act would let Interior partner with towns like Chincoteague during lifeguard shortages and reimburse local governments for the costs of keeping swimmers safe.
• Kellam convicted of murder, arson in 2024 Accomack County killing of Warren Fosque III (shoredailynews.com) — A man has been convicted of second-degree murder, firearm use, and arson in a 2024 Accomack County killing that involved several Eastern Shore locations, including a night out at Teaguers on Chincoteague. Jurors relied on extensive circumstantial evidence, such as surveillance footage and cell phone data, after investigators found no usable DNA or fingerprints at the scene.
