• Two years after Hurricane Helene ravaged Southwest Virginia, a study of the storm's effects on the Clinch River is underway. (cardinalnews.org) — Clinchport residents are still living with Hurricane Helene's damage, as a new high-tech survey of the Clinch River maps debris, unstable banks, and flood risks along its 135 Virginia miles. The study, funded by a regional grant, aims to guide future restoration, improve public safety, and help prevent the kind of isolation Clinchport experienced when flooding cut off access to the town.
