1. TECHnista to invest $15.1M in Danville, creating 22 jobs (virginiabusiness.com) — A Ringgold-based education consulting firm, TECHnista, is investing $15.1 million to expand into Danville's Cyber Park Shell Building, bringing 22 new jobs and a National Training and Technology Center to the city. The project, backed by state and regional partners and a Commonwealth's Opportunity Fund grant, will support advanced manufacturing education, with construction starting in a few months and occupancy expected in early 2028.
2. Danville Police officer arrested, placed on leave, in connection with shooting (augustafreepress.com) — An off-duty Danville Police officer, 22-year-old Jayquan Morton, was arrested Monday after investigators linked him to a Sunday shooting on South Main Street in Danville, where a sedan was hit by gunfire but its two occupants were uninjured. After a multi-state search, Morton was stopped and arrested in Danville, and Police Chief Chris Wiles requested Virginia State Police handle the investigation while Morton is placed on unpaid leave.
3. Virginia Transportation Officials Warn of $1.7 Billion Highway Maintenance Gap (theroanokestar.com) — Danville residents should know the local school board has approved a new contract for its superintendent, even as the district enjoys a second straight year of tourism growth alongside Pittsylvania County. At the same time, Virginia transportation officials warn of a $1.7 billion highway maintenance gap that could cut road construction statewide, potentially affecting future projects in Southside.
4. Milwaukee's largest solar installation comes online (solarbuildermag.com) — A new 11‑megawatt "Danville II" battery project with Danville Utilities is being developed to shave peak demand and help lower energy costs for city residents. It's part of a broader FlexGen–Lightshift partnership building 16 battery projects across Massachusetts, Virginia, and Vermont, alongside major solar and storage investments nationwide that aim to strengthen grid reliability and expand renewable power.
