1. Virginia Secures $15M TECHnista Investment in Danville (fundsforngos.org) — Danville is set to gain at least 22 new jobs as education consulting firm TECHnista invests $15.1 million in a 30,000-square-foot facility at the Cyber Park Shell Building. The project will expand K-12 workforce programs tied to defense and advanced manufacturing, positioning local students and educators for new training opportunities and potential partnerships with industry and nonprofits.
   

2. Danville City Jail Inmate Dies After Extended Hospital Stay (wakg.com) — An inmate at Danville City Jail, 60-year-old Jeanette Staton, has died after more than a month of treatment at Centra Hospital in Lynchburg, according to Sheriff Mike Mondul. Staton, jailed on second-degree murder and larceny charges tied to a Danville-area death, had significant preexisting health issues and was under a court-ordered mental health evaluation before her hospitalization.
   

3. GO Virginia awards $400,000 to Region 3 AI entrepreneurship project (theenterprise.net) — Danville is one of the key cities set to benefit from a $400,000 GO Virginia grant backing an AI-focused entrepreneurship initiative across Southside. The Region 3 project will help local businesses adopt artificial intelligence, develop new products, and access technical assistance in advanced manufacturing, emerging tech, and agriculture, potentially opening new job and innovation opportunities here.
   

4. Off-duty Danville officer appears in court in connection with shooting incident (wset.com) — Danville residents are learning more about a 22-year-old off-duty city police officer who appeared in court after being charged in connection with a Sunday shooting at an occupied vehicle, in which no one was hurt. Because a Danville officer is involved, Virginia State Police are handling the investigation, and a preliminary hearing date has not yet been set.
   

5. $20M investment brings new emergency room, helicopter to our hometowns (wdbj7.com) — Danville is set to gain a new ACE medical helicopter and air base this fall, expanding rapid emergency transport options for local patients. Funded through a $20 million HCA Virginia investment, the project pairs with a new freestanding ER in Hollins and will coordinate closely with Danville-area EMS, hospitals, and first responders to speed critical care.
