Police Offer Tips For Keeping Vehicles Safe

APD says recent vehicle thefts appear unrelated

A series of recent vehicle thefts in Del Ray and Arlandria appear to be unrelated, according to an Alexandria Police Department spokesperson.

Eight vehicles have been reported stolen in and around those neighborhoods since July 10, according to crimereports.com. These thefts include two scooters. One vehicle was reported as recovered. 

The APD offers these tips for keeping cars safe and preventing larcenies:

  • Lock all doors and close windows when you leave your car, even if it is only for a short while. This includes filling up at a gas station.
  • Look for a parking space in a well-lit, busy place.
  • Do not leave anything on display that could tempt a thief. Remove portable GPS units from the dashboard, including the cradle. Do not simply put the unit in the glove box or under your seat. Thieves will quickly find it.
  • Do not leave any other valuables in your vehicles, including laptops, cameras, satellite radios, cell phones and other electronics.
