Police Warn of Moped Theft
Alexandria Police Capt. Dianne Gittins urges owners to park their mopeds out of view.

Capt. Dianne Gittins of the Alexandria Police Department informed members of the Del Ray Business Association this week of a recent rash of moped thefts in the Del Ray and Arlandria areas.
Gittins advised moped owners to not park them in the street or in view from the road.
“If you own one, put it in a backyard, put it out of view,” Gittins said. “They’re real easy to take, even with a cable lock.”

Gittins said the APD is investigating at least one person in connection to a string of recent vehicle thefts.
Gittins urged owners to register their mopeds in the department’s system. Those interested in registering their mopeds with APD can contact Sgt. Nick Ruggiero at nicholas.ruggiero@alexandriava.gov.
