UPDATED: Shots Fired in Warwick Village, No Injuries Reported

Police say victim and suspect had prior relationship

10:34 p.m. update — Candi Ellis, who lives in Del Ray Central Apartments, said she was reading to her children before putting them to bed shortly after 8 p.m. when she heard people outside her window talking about shots fired.

"Right when I heard someone say 'two shots,' I moved the girls into the kitchen and called 911," Ellis said. "[The police] were here really fast."

10:29 p.m. update — Alexandria Police are also performing an investigation on Kennedy Street. Aaron and Rebecca Thompson said the police told them the incident occurred on Kennedy Street.

10:26 update — Police were seen inside Del Ray Central Apartments in a unit on the ground floor along Mt. Vernon Avenue. A bullet hole was plainly seen in one of the windows. Another bullet hole was being examined in the facade of the building.

10:14 update — Aaron and Rebecca Thompson, who live on Kennedy Street, said they returned to Del Ray after shopping at the Container Store when they discovered their street was blocked off by a multitude of police cars.

"The police said shots were fired and that the perimeter was blocked off," Rebecca Thompson said while sitting in a bus shelter on Mt. Vernon Avenue. "We went around [to the other side of the block] and the police told us to wait [to go home]."

Aaron Thompson said he and his wife have lived in Warwick Village for about a year and a half.

When asked of her initial reaction, Rebecca Thompson said there was "disbelief."

10:05 p.m. update — Police are examining at least two bullet holes on the exterior of the Del Ray Central Apartments.

Shots were fired at Mount Vernon Avenue and Kennedy Street in Alexandria's Warwick Village Wednesday night, but no injuries were reported, according to police.

The suspect and the victim knew each other, said police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt.

Police are currently conducting an investigation.
