Dominion-NextEra merger: SCC hears arguments on Clean Virginia motion to compel (wtvr.com) — Fairfax residents will have a chance to speak directly to regulators about the proposed Dominion-NextEra merger at an in-person State Corporation Commission hearing on October 9 at the Fairfax County Government Center. The case centers on how much information regulators and the public should see about NextEra's past political and business conduct before a decision that could reshape Virginia's electric utility landscape is made.
4. New Virginia Quantum Hub Launches At George Mason With $3.7M Grant (patch.com) — George Mason University in Fairfax County is launching a Virginia Quantum Hub backed by a pending $3.7 million GO Virginia grant to grow the region's quantum computing industry and workforce. The Fairfax-based initiative will build labs, expand K–12 and professional training, and partner with local employers, which county economic officials say could strengthen high-tech job opportunities close to home.
5. Pedestrian killed in I-395 crash over Labor Day weekend identified (ffxnow.com) — A pedestrian killed on I-395 in Fairfax County over Labor Day has been identified as an Annandale man, one of 15 pedestrian deaths in the county this year. The tragedy comes as Fairfax County Police intensify their "Operation Safe Right Turn" enforcement, issuing over 1,100 citations and warnings and distributing thousands of safety flyers to protect people walking and rolling on local roads.
