Fairfax County Parkway Trail To Close By Route 50 During Day: VDOT

VDOT said the trail at the Route 50 interchange in Fair Oaks will close temporarily.

FAIR OAKS, VA — The Fairfax County Parkway Trail at the Route 50 interchange in Fair Oaks is scheduled for daytime closures from Monday, May 11, through Thursday, May 14, weather permitting, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

VDOT said the closures are planned between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day for drainage pipe replacement. The affected area is at the interchange of Fairfax County Parkway and Route 50.

During the work, bicyclists and pedestrians will be detoured around the closure area, according to VDOT. The agency said the detour route uses the trail that parallels the northbound Fairfax County Parkway, also known as Route 286, ramp to eastbound Route 50, then continues along the trail that parallels eastbound Route 50 and the eastbound Route 50 service road.

From there, the detour continues through the crosswalk at the Route 50 and Alder Woods Drive/Dorforth Drive intersection, according to VDOT. The route then follows the trail that parallels westbound Route 50 and the trail that parallels the westbound Route 50 ramp to Fairfax County Parkway before reconnecting with the Fairfax County Parkway Trail.

VDOT asked bicyclists and pedestrians to follow posted detour signs during the closure period. The agency said the work is weather permitting, which could affect the schedule.

The closure notice applies only during daytime hours listed by VDOT. No additional schedule changes were included in the release.

VDOT said traffic, work zone and incident information is available at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, through the 511Virginia mobile app and by calling 511 in Virginia.
