FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Students at Daniels Run Elementary School in Fairfax City were evacuated for a short period of time on Tuesday as firefighters investigated the report of a building fire, authorities say.

In an email sent to Daniels Run families, Principal Susan Mullen said that the school was evacuated after a light burst in a classroom, which generated some smoke. No one was injured.

"Students and staff remained outside for about 20 minutes until the fire department determined that the building was safe," she said. "We then returned inside and resumed normal classes and activities."

Mullens went on to want to commend students and staff for the calm and responsible way they followed directions during the evacuation.
