7 Fairfax City Restaurants Cited During July 1-14 Health Inspections

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Seven Fairfax City food establishments were cited for health code violations during routine inspections conducted between July 1 and July 14, according to Fairfax County Health Department inspection reports. The reports document conditions observed at the time of each inspection, and many violations were corrected before inspectors concluded their visits.

Inspectors cited Pad Thai Restaurant after finding the person in charge could not provide the required employee health policy and the restaurant lacked written procedures for responding to vomiting or diarrheal events. During the inspection, the Fairfax County Health Department provided the required materials electronically and instructed management to print, maintain and implement them on site.

Inspectors cited Hashi for several priority violations, including raw chicken stored above soy sauce, raw tuna stored above cooked shrimp, onion curry sauce held below the required hot-holding temperature and employees using a handwashing sink to dump ice and rinse towels. Staff corrected the violations during the inspection by reorganizing food storage, reheating the sauce to the proper temperature and limiting the handwashing sink to its intended use.

Inspectors found the deli's menu lacked the required consumer advisory for eggs that may be served raw or undercooked upon request. Inspectors instructed the restaurant to add an asterisk to applicable menu items and include the required consumer advisory statement by July 19. A follow-up inspection was scheduled.

Employees switched to separate utensils for raw and ready-to-eat foods and stocked the sink with paper towels during the inspection.
