FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City Council candidate Russell Jones reported receiving no campaign contributions through the end of August, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Virginia Department of Elections.

Jones formed the Russell A Jones for Fairfax committee as an independent candidate seeking one of six seats on the Fairfax City Council in the Nov. 3 election. His campaign began the election cycle with $100 but reported no contributions, loans or other receipts during the four reporting periods covering Jan. 23 through Aug. 31.

The campaign reported just one expenditure during that period: a $10.50 check-order charge on May 19. That left Jones with $89.50 in his campaign account at the end of August.

No Fundraising Activity Reported

Jones' first campaign finance report, covering Jan. 23 through March 31, showed no contributions or expenditures and a $100 balance.

The campaign reported no contributions during the April 1-June 30 reporting period and spent $10.50 on the check-order charge.

Jones subsequently filed no-activity reports covering July 1-23 and July 24-Aug. 31. Both showed no contributions, expenditures, loans or unpaid debts.

As a result, the campaign's Aug. 31 report showed $89.50 in cash on hand, $10.50 in total election-cycle spending and no debt.

The reports list $100 as the campaign's balance at the start of the election cycle but do not identify that money as a contribution or loan. Because no source is identified in the reports provided, it is not included in Jones' contribution total.

Jones' statement of organization identifies him as an independent candidate for City Council. Fairfax City's six council seats are elected at large on a nonpartisan basis, with the current council terms expiring Dec. 31.

The Nov. 3 general election includes races for mayor and City Council.
