FAIRFAX, VA — Detectives are seeking the public's help in solving a bank jugging case in Annandale.

At 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 23, the victim withdrew $2,400 from a bank on Backlick Road. He then drove to a nearby gas station. While he was inside, the suspect opened his vehicle and stole the cash, police said.

The suspect sped off as the victim unsuccessfully tried to stop him.

Bank jugging occurs when someone watches a person withdraw cash from an ATM or bank, follows them to another location and steals the money. Detectives believe that happened in this case.

Surveillance footage captured the theft and the suspect's vehicle, a gray or dark blue minivan.

To avoid becoming a victim, police advise people to stay alert when leaving a financial institution and to keep cash secure and out of sight.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Franconia District Station at 703-922-0894 and ask to speak with a detective.
