FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A Virginia State Police trooper suffered minor injuries on Monday after losing control of a patrol vehicle on Interstate 495 in Fairfax County and crashing into another car, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly before 5:10 p.m. on northbound I-495 near Route 236 while the trooper was responding to a call.
According to state police, the trooper's vehicle hit standing water on the roadway, causing the trooper to lose control and collide with another car.
The impact forced the second car into a barrier and caused the patrol vehicle to catch fire, authorities said.
The trooper was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the other car was not injured.
State police said a third car had also lost control in the area before the crash involving the trooper. That driver was not injured.
The crashes remain under investigation.
