The list highlights how Northern Virginia schools, especially around Falls Church and Fairfax County, dominate the state's public high school landscape. Rankings weigh college readiness, test performance, and graduation rates.
   

• Washington, D.C., man pleads guilty to armed carjackings including one in MoCo (bethesdamagazine.com) — A Washington, D.C. man has pleaded guilty in federal court to a string of 2024 armed carjackings that included one in Falls Church as well as incidents in D.C., Silver Spring, and Hyattsville. Prosecutors say he and an accomplice targeted drivers at gunpoint before being caught after a chaotic chase near RFK Stadium. Sentencing is set for January, with prosecutors able to seek up to 24 years.
   

• Democratic Leaders, Northern Virginia Representatives Open Investigation Into ICE Agents Threatening U.S. Citizen With Gun In Northern Virginia (house.gov) — Democratic congressional leaders and Northern Virginia representatives have launched an investigation into an August 10 ICE encounter in Falls Church, where a masked agent was recorded pointing a gun at U.S. citizen Carolina Molina. They're asking the FBI and Justice Department to review the incident, preserve all records, and place involved agents on leave, arguing the escalation and later DHS statements were unjustified.
