17-Year-Old Cited For Weapon, Drugs Charges Following Crash: Police
A 17-year-old who was initially charged with reckless driving was also charged with underage possession of marijuana and a firearm.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 17-year-old from Spotsylvania County is facing drugs and weapons charges following an investigation into an overturned vehicle by the Fredericksburg Police Department on Saturday afternoon.
FPD patrol officers responded around 2:30 p.m. for the report of an overturned vehicle in the 3000 block of Normandy Avenue.
After interviewing the vehicle's driver and occupants, as well as witnesses, the officers determined that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed on Woodford Street when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed. None of the occupants of the car, who were all in their teens, required medical treatment, according to police.

The officers issued two summons for reckless driving and juvenile passenger restriction violation to the 17-year-old driver, who was from Spotsylvania County.
One of the witnesses told the officers that they had seen one of the vehicle's occupants throw something into the woods nearby. After searching the woodline, one of the officers found a large bag of marijuana.

A callout was made to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office requesting a K9 to assist in the search, according to FPD. The Stafford K9 arrived on the scene and searched the wooded area. In addition to the bag of marijuana, the K9 found an American Tactical AR pistol with one round in the chamber, according to police.
After a witness identified the 17-year-old driver from Spotsylvania as the person who threw items into the woods, officers obtained the following petitions charging the driver with:
- Possession marijuana with intent to distribute
- Underage possession of marijuana
- Underage possession of a firearm
- Obstruction of justice
- False I.D. to law enforcement
