STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A 17-year-old girl faces charges after authorities said she fled from police and crashed her car after a chase in Stafford County on Saturday.

The girl was not seriously injured in the crash. She is charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, and driving without a license.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office has not identified the girl by name due to a Virginia law that protects the identities of minors. Authorities released the girl to her parents after the crash.

Stafford County deputies chased the fleeing car and deployed spike strips that deflated two of the Infiniti's tires.

The fleeing driver tried to turn onto Little Street, but lost control and crashed, authorities said.

Deputies identified the driver as a 17-year-old girl. "She explained she was scared of being pulled over since she did not have a driver’s license," the sheriff's office said.

Stafford County's Juvenile Intake authorities declined to take the girl into custody. Authorities instead released her to her parents.
