Husband Kills Wife, Himself At Spotsylvania Hospital: Police

An 80-year-old man shot and killed his wife and then killed himself in her hospital room in Spotsylvania County, the sheriff's office said.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — An 80-year-old man shot and killed his wife and then killed himself Friday morning in her hospital room on the fourth floor of the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.

In the incident, 80 year-old Alexander Turella shot and killed his wife, 76 year-old Pamela Turella, in her hospital room. Alexander Turella then shot and killed himself, according to the sheriff's office. They lived in Spotsylvania County. The couple's next-of-kin have been notified, the sheriff's office said.

The shooting, which occurred at about 9:15 a.m., was isolated to Turella's room. Medical personnel immediately called 911 after hearing the shooting, the sheriff's office said.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office said no other patients, staff, or visitors at the hospital at 4600 Spotsylvania Pkwy were harmed or in danger.
