STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A school bus crashed and overturned on Friday in Stafford County, according to a report from the sheriff's office.

Two students on the bus were injured and taken to the hospital. Two drivers involved in the crash also received medical treatment at the hospital. None of the injuries were life-threatening, authorities said.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office has not announced any charges for any of the drivers involved in the crash.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, 12 students were on board bus 227 after it left Grafton Village Elementary school. Investigators said a Volkswagen was travelling behind the school bus on northbound Brooke Road before the crash.

The driver of the Volkswagen tried to pass the school bus by crossing the double yellow lines, authorities said. The Volkswagen hit a Dodge SUV head-on in the southbound lane, according to the police report.

The Volkswagen hit the front of the school bus before overturning in an embankment. The force from the crash nudged the bus into the embankment, where it rolled over, police said.

"A combined effort of the community, deputies, Stafford County Fire and Rescue, and Stafford County Public School personnel worked to assess those involved in the crash, comfort the brave children, notify anxious parents, transport the injured to the appropriate medical facility and unify the children with their families," the sheriff's office aid in a news release. "As the Traffic Safety Unit investigated the accident, Traffic Safety Unit Volunteers diverted traffic from the closed roadway."

Authorities are still investigating the crash. The sheriff's office is asking anyone else who may have witnessed the crash to call Deputy Weatherholtz at 540-658-4400.
