STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A lottery ticket worth $258,000 will expire on Monday if it remains unclaimed, the Virginia Lottery said. The winning ticket won the Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing on March 16.

Lottery officials said the ticket was bought at the Giant Food at 317 Worth Avenue in Stafford County.

If the winner doesn't come forward before 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, the ticket will be worthless. Virginia law states that winning lottery tickets expire if they aren't claimed 180 days after the drawing.

"Whoever has the winning ticket should contact the Virginia Lottery immediately or present the winning ticket at a Virginia Lottery customer service center or prize zone," lottery officials said in a news release this week.

If the prize is not claimed, the funds would be donated to Virginia's Literary Fund. The fund provides loans to Virginia localities so they can perform renovations, upgrades, or constructions on public schools.
