3 Malicious Wounding Charges Filed In Ashby Woods Shooting
A Spotsylvania man faces three malicious shooting charges in connection with an early morning shooting in Ashby Woods on Tuesday.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 43-year-old Spotsylvania man is facing multiple charges of malicious wounding in connection with a shooting incident that took place early Tuesday morning in Ashby Woods.
Deputies from the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office responded around 1 a.m. for the report of a shooting in the 11200 block of Ashby Drive. The deputies found a man and a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, SSO reported. They were rushed to a nearby trauma center to be treated for serious injuries. Later in the day, authorities said they were in stable condition.
Witnesses told deputies that an acquaintance had arrived at the home on Ashby Woods Drive. The suspect was asked to leave, but he refused. An argument ensued and spilled out onto the front yard, where the man waved a gun and shot the two victims multiple times, according to the SSO.

As the man fled the property in his vehicle, he ran over the female victim, according to authorities. Later, the suspect, who was identified as Joseph Alfonza Jackson of Spotslylvania, turned himself in.
SSO detectives arrested Jackson and charged him with three counts of malicious wounding. He was then held without bond in Rappahannock Regional Jail.

In December 2022, Jackson was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, but the case was later dismissed, according to court records. In 2016, he was found guilty on a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure and required to pay $259 in court costs.
Malicious wounding is a Class 3 felony, according to the Code of Virginia. If Jackson is found guilty, he potentially faces a prison sentence of five to 20 years and a possible fine of $100,000 for each of the three charges.
