74 Heroin And Fentanyl Capsules Seized During Spotsylvania Arrest: Police

Authorities in Spotsylvania County found 74 capsules containing suspected fentanyl and heroin during an arrest on Tuesday.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — Deputies in Spotsylvania County found dozens of pills containing suspected fentanyl and heroin during an arrest on Tuesday, according to a police report.

Deputies arrested 37-year-old Matthew Eugene Jett and charged him with one count of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was also served warrants for drug offenses from other areas, authorities said.

Jett was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. His next court date is scheduled for March 22.

If convicted of the distribution charge, Jett could face up to 40 years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies were assigned to the Partlow and Beaverdam area after residents reported drug activity. Detectives spoke with a man, who they later identified as Jett, in the 2900 block of Partlow Road.

According to a police report, Jett gave a false name to detectives. Authorities eventually learned that Jett was wanted in several areas and found 74 capsules of suspected heroin and fentanyl.

"The citizens of Spotsylvania are fed up with this kind of poison on our streets," Spotsylvania County Sheriff Roger Harris said in a report. "Drug dealers have to get lucky every day; we only need to get lucky once."
