AC Unit Causes Fire At The Carl Lewis Community Center In Stafford

A fire broke out at the Carl Lewis Community Center in Stafford County on Monday afternoon; no injuries were reported.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A fire destroyed the Carl Lewis Community Center on Monday, Stafford County Fire and Rescue said. Nobody was injured by the blaze.

On Tuesday, authorities determined that the fire was caused by a malfunctioning AC unity.

Fire crews were dispatched to the scene around 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. When they arrived, firefighters saw heavy fire showing through the roof.

After about twenty minutes, firefighters brought the blaze under control, according to the fire department.

The Carl Lewis Community Center has been used in the past to host events like wedding receptions and scouting events. On the fire department's Facebook page, one commenter noted that they used to square dance at the community center in the 90s.
