After 2 Years, Stray Dog Finally Finds a Home

Charlie left Spotsylvania Animal Shelter with a red bow and lots of excitement. "He'll get to see the country," said his new owner.

Families arrive daily to see dogs available for adoption at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter. And a new dog is always there that wasn’t at the shelter the day before. Until this week, Charlie was always there, too.

The stray bull-terrier mix had been a shelter resident for two years before he left Tuesday for his new home, sent off with a red bow around his neck and a lot of excitement from shelter staff.

The people who took care of Charlie all this time said their goodbyes.

“It’s finally happening, and especially when you get so attached to dogs, it’s just huge,” Ashley Hamilton told WTVR, wiping away tears.

New owner Jason Davis lives in West Virginia, but he knows a few shelter staff members and they told him they had the perfect dog.

“It was love at first sight,” he told WTVR. “He’ll be spoiled rotten. He’ll get to see the country. He’ll be in the ocean tomorrow.”

There are still many dogs waiting for a home at the shelter.
