After Short Car Chase, Deputies Save Man's Life: Stafford County Sheriff's Office
Suspect fled after wife stabbed him in self defense, according to SCSO. Tourniquet used by deputies likely saved the man's life.

STAFFORD, VA — Deputies are being credited with saving the life of a man after a brief car chase, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
The man was allegedly stabbed by his wife in self defense Saturday and fled in a car from police for some two miles before finally stopping. Stafford deputies broke a window to unlock the vehicle and then apparently helped save the bleeding driver's life by applying a tourniquet to his wound.
He was transported to an area hospital, where a trauma surgeon credited the tourniquet for saving his life. He later was charged with domestic assault.

The wife had called police to report the incident and give them a description of the car, a Pontiac G6 with Maryland license plates. En route to the scene on Choptank Road, a deputy spotted the car and gave chase on eastbound Garrisonville Road, during which the driver ran a red light and was weaving, according to police.
The car stopped near the intersection of Shenandoah Lane but the driver refused to communicate. The deputy, knowing the man had been stabbed and fearing for the man's life, then broke the window.

While another officer applied the tourniquet, the man reportedly was verbally abusive and combative.
The investigation is continuing.
